Competitive ski racing was the major part of my childhood. I dedicated all my time to moving around the country, living in different cities to train with the best coaches in the country. Vail, Aspen, Minneapolis, and traveling to many more.
When I left ski racing/coaching to head off to College to get my bachelors degree in Aviation Education at South Dakota State University, I also left the gym. I ended up gaining weight due to a lack of motivation and no longer training for skiing.
I started CrossFit in Phoenix, Arizona in 2012. With my years of experience and a love for Olympic weight lifting, I had found my home. CrossFit has brought my love of Olympic lifting and my need for cardio activity and combined them to make my an overall better athlete.

I'm an Arizona native, yes we still exist. Growing up I was a competitive swimmer, training 3-4 times a day during high school on an Olympic Trials prep team. This led to an inevitable burnout which caused me to leave the sport before starting college.
I graduated from the University of Arizona in December 2010 with a degree in Psychology. After feeling lost and unmotivated in a globo gym I found a high intensity bootcamp on Groupon. Here I regained my love of fitness and knew my goal was to become a trainer.
I started CrossFit in 2016 and quickly got the fever! I became a L1-CF trainer September 2016 and have been coaching since. There is truly nothing I enjoy more than helping others reach their fitness goals.

My first Crossfit experience was actually at Octane Crossfit a little over 3 years ago. I walked into Octane having no idea what Crossfit was. After signing up, putting in work, and losing 30+ pounds I knew Crossfit was my new jam. Not only did I see the benefits of Crossfit in my physical appearance and health but in my career outside of the gym as well.
I obtained my CFL1 in October of 2018 to be able to share my story and passion for Crossfit with others in hopes to help them along their Crossfit journey. I was born in Costa Rica and raised in the United States. I am fluent in Spanish and English with a willingness to help in either language.

As a collegiate athlete, sports and fitness were always my passion and this let me easily fall in love with CrossFit when I found it by accident in 2012. Because of my passion for health and fitness I went on to study Health and Exercise Physiology at Ursinus College in Pennsylvania and went for my CrossFit L1 certification in 2016.
Since then, I have built a true passion for coaching others through the CrossFit methodology and seeing the impact it has had on their overall wellness. To grow my ability to effectively coach others I pursued my CrossFit L2 certification and plan to continue expanding my knowledge of effective coaching to improve the health and fitness of every athlete I come across.
Octane CrossFit is something special. At Octane, we foster an inclusive community that allows athletes from all walks of life to grow in their fitness journey, no matter where they are starting out. Every coach I have encountered is knowledgeable and truly cares about every single individual in the gym.

A year after the birth of our daughter, my wife and I decided to move from Chicago to Phoenix be closer to my wife’s family. Finding Octane has been one of the best things that’s happened to us since our move. In more than 10 years of coaching, I have dropped into countless gyms, so I know firsthand that Octane CrossFit has something special. The coaching staff’s comfort in working with all ages and degrees of athleticism and the community’s eagerness to welcome newcomers are evidence of their uniqueness.
I am a firm believer that training should be fun, consistent, and progressive. This approach is what allowed me to win the Michigan State Championship in high school wrestling, compete regionally in CrossFit (taking 8th place in the North Central Regional in 2012 and 2013), and more recently, in 2014 and 2017, place in the top 10 at the US Nationals for weightlifting. With Octane CrossFit, I am fortunate to have found a fitness home that embraces a philosophy that can help people regardless of where they are in their fitness journey.

Sports and outdoor activities were a huge part of my childhood. I come from a heavy coaching and education focused lineage; my grandpa was a high school and college football coach in the Phoenix area and my dad is currently a high school special education teacher. I found CrossFit in 2009 and in 2010 I started coaching elementary and high school athletes for off season speed and conditioning at various schools through a partnership with a prominent physical therapy chain. I received my CrossFit Level 1 certificate in 2011 and shifted to training exclusively CrossFit from there forward.
Outside of the gym Brooke and I have 2 dogs, Jax and Tucker, that we like to take on our weekend activities. I'm a big fan of using my fitness outdoors whether that be preparing for an upcoming hunt, cycling around Phoenix, or paddle boarding.

Throughout high school and college I trained for five years to earn a 1st Degree Black Belt in Hapkido, a Korean martial art. In 2007 I discovered CrossFit and hit the workouts hard.
A few years later I found a Starting Strength gym and studied barbell lifting more extensively. While there, I was very fortunate to train under Leo Totten, the president of East Coast Gold, a national weightlifting team. He and the team taught me a great deal about the Olympic lifts, bodily mechanics, and the importance of mobility.
I then moved to the west coast and trained under Jay Tieder, a veteran of the USA weightlifting education staff; there I learned the finer nuances of longevity-oriented positioning – do ten perfect squats instead of 100 sloppy squats for a better body tomorrow. Here at Octane I strive to forge healthier people and I love witnessing well-earned gains.

We travel and visit boxes wherever we go, most of the time you receive good coaching. On occasion we come across a box that we really jive with and there is exceptional instruction. Octane CrossFit is one of the occasions for us.
On top of the great workout and A+ instruction we had a long discussion in regards to Crossfit health related initiatives. Regan understands what Crossfit is really about, his passion for helping people cure disease through nutrition and activity is AMAZING!
Very grateful to have dropped into Octane and to meet Regan, we look forward to watching you and working with you in the future!

Cannot say enough about this gym. This was my "home" box for three months while in Phoenix for work and from day 1 I was coached as if I had been there for months. The coaching staff is knowledgeable, facility is clean, and programming is structured well. Plus, the pricing and class availability is better than anywhere else I looked nearby. Definitely recommend Octane to any level athlete.

Could not have asked for a better place to drop in at when away on business. Owner is knowledgeable and friendly and the box was SUPER clean which is a pet peeve of mine. We are moving to Phoenix soon and Octane is on top of my list of gyms to join when we do. Thanks for a great experience.

*THESE GUYS HAVE A SYSTEM THAT TRULY WORKS FOR EVERYONE!*
Whether you're stopping in to try CrossFit for the first time or ready set a new Personal Record, the crew at octane is ready to help you reach your goals. Their team of coaches go the extra mile to understand each of their members' current fitness level and experience to minimize any risk of injury and maximize the benefits of each workout. They don't assume you know every movement or can lift 400 lbs. They take the time to TEACH and practice movements before the start of each class and also help you scale the WOD (workout of the day) to make sure it's challenging, but doable.
COMMUNITY: From simple things like genuinely wanting to learning about your interests and background to happy hours, local food and toy drives for those in need, the Octane crew is passionate about making a positive impact in our community!
I've been here for 4 months now... I feel great and meeting some really cool people that are all committed to improving their overall health & doing some great things for our community.
Regardless of your age or fitness level I would HIGHLY recommend stopping by to check out what Octane is all about!!

I'm new to the whole formal exercise thing, and was slightly nervous and intimidated by things I've heard about CrossFit, my only advise, just do it!
The coaches here are very instructional which I appreciate due to my limited attention span and lack of CrossFit knowledge. Lol
They never make you feel less than, very encouraging, and every exercise move has a modification!
They also have a "ramp up" for new members, teaching all the most common moves and techniques!

We have been members of Octane Crossfit since Aug '15. And really love it! The coaches and community members are the best. Staying in shape through hard work is essential. Having fun doing it with people you trust and admire is a bonus that not many gyms offer. Octane is teaching us to eat well, train hard and push ourselves harder.

Crossfit "movements/lifts" can be difficult to master but the coaches help athletes scale appropriately to a level that is safe yet challenging for each individual in class. I wouldn't have as much fun or see results as quickly on my own at a traditional gym. Great community ! Felt comfortable day 1 walking in!

I joined Octane about 3 months ago and my progress in such a short period of time has been tremendous. I have to attribute majority of it to the motivation from the coaches and the members. There is a real sense of community and support. I highly recommend it to anyone!

I am just finishing up a month Groupon for this gym and it has been great. The coaches and members were very welcoming and provided great instruction and feedback. They keep the gym nice and cool which makes a difference, especially in the summer time. They have excellent barbells that spin well which is important for more experienced weightlifters.

I love this place! I was super bored going to the regular gym and wanted to try something different to push myself. The minute I called actually and spoke to Regan on the phone I had a good feeling about this place. The most important thing for me is the support from this box and coaches! It truly is a place to feel awesome no matter how far you scale down. In 4 months my body has changed a lot and I feel so much better!!

I love Octane Crossfit. I watched my buddy get into Octane for several months before I realized that it might be a good idea for me. I thought Crossfit was not for me because it's too expensive, I don't have the time, I'm too old, I'm not in good enough shape to do Crossfit, it's too yelly and clangy and heavy, etc etc etc, and all of the other reasons to stay the way I was. Before joining, I was a canal jogger and couch potato. I joined OCF just before my 50th birthday this past June, did the on-ramps, survived, learned some acronyms, and hit it hard through the summer. I now go about 4-5 times per week, and have learned how to pace and adapt/scale the moves. My family has noticed that I don't carry as much stress, and definitely that I am getting in better physical shape. I have also been able to make big changes in what I eat, and that has helped me drop some pounds. In fact, I'm now in the best shape of my life. There are still exercises that make me want to cry (rowing and thrusters and pistols oh my), but the support and instruction from all of the coaches, the little challenges and contests we have, the Saturday barbecues and the holiday community events, and the inclusive spirit from all of the members make me want to keep showing up. See you at the next WOD!

I have tried several Crossfit gyms and just never found a fit. Either I wasn't pushed enough or I was pushed too hard with too little instruction. After my first on-ramp/intro class I knew Octane Crossfit was different. The coaching was amazing and I actually felt comfortable doing movements I had never done! I have become hooked. The positive atmosphere and supportive environment is everything I could want in a gym. If you're looking for functional fitness with results like you never thought possible, then Octane Crossfit is the place for you.

WHAT IS CROSSFIT?
What is CrossFit? Greg Glassman, a former gymnast, founded CrossFit®, Inc. in 2000. In his years coaching elite athletes, Coach Glassman found that the best way to achieve optimal fitness was not through specialization but rather through “constantly varied, functional movement, performed at high intensity.” In short, this means combining elements of Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics, sprinting, rowing and core conditioning to improve overall flexibility, strength, speed, endurance and agility.
Constantly Varied: “Constantly Varied” means that every day brings a different workout (or “WOD”), incorporating any combination of these elements. At Octane CrossFit you (yes, you!) will jump rope, climb ropes, swing kettle bells and flip tires. You will work at pull ups, muscle ups, hand stands, pushups, and hand-stand pushups. You will practice squats, dips, cleans, jerks, snatches and deadlifts as well as rowing, running and box jumps. Each day will bring different exercises always specifically designed to work on different muscle groups and/or cardiovascular strength.
Functional Movement: “Functional Movement” refers to maintaining the safest, most-efficient position to power through a movement. There are plenty of misconceptions out there about CrossFit; the truth is much of what we do in our workouts mirrors activities in our daily lives. To the uninitiated, flipping a tire looks like crazy, “he-man” work. But if you’ve ever had to move a mattress up a flight of stairs, you already know the movement. Cleaning a medicine ball may appear odd, but consider what your body does when you place your suitcase in a plane’s overhead compartment. If you’ve ever lifted a heavy bag of dog food or peat moss, no one needs to tell you the importance of arching your back. Octane CrossFit will help you maintain the correct position in a workout – both to keep you and other safe as well as to maximize efficiency.
High Intensity: “High Intensity” is a concept that at first can be difficult for new CrossFitters to grasp. For many people, a workout’s efficiency is only proportionate to the amount of hours spent in the gym. You will never hear a CrossFitter say, “I had a great workout; I was in the gym for four hours!” You are much more likely to hear, “I finished in 8 minutes.” People come here skeptical that a high-intensity workout, done in a fraction of the time as they are used to, can lead to faster, better results. But results don’t lie.
The beauty of our sport is that we are all in it together, motivating one another. It’s a sport where the person last to finish the workout receives more high fives than the person first to finish. We encourage you to learn more about the CrossFit® philosophy and methodology at: crossfit.com. We are happy to talk with you more about our program!
